What's a criterium?

America has a rich history of criterium racing, a unique form of cycling that stresses high-speed racing, contested amidst a thriving urban atmosphere. Criterium racing’s ability to combine the most exciting elements of popular sports with the large-scale appeal of downtown arts and music festivals has made it the most enduring form of cycling in North America with an ever-growing following of fans. Because these races are historically run on short laps through city streets, this has made the criterium format the most spectator-friendly form of cycling.

Tell me about the course.

Beautiful Historic Downtown Belmont is the perfect setting for a criterium event.  We have designed a course that will prove challenging for the participants and exciting for spectators.

The start/finish line will be directly in front of City Hall.  The course will begin north on Main Street and then turn right on Woodrow Avenue.  A quick right on Davis and a left on Kenwood will take the racers to Glenway.  The course will follow Glenway back to Main Street with an uphill finish at City Hall. A map of the course is below.
What can I expect?

The day will begin at 12 pm with a series of amateur cycling races on the closed downtown course. The professional criterium races will begin at 5 pm on streets north of the railroad tracks. The women's professional race will begin at 5 pm and the men's professional race will begin at 6 pm.

We have a hospitality area with food and drinks for sale, kids zone, and Standard Distributors Infield on Catawba Street.
